About Fishing the Kenai.

  • Salmon Fishing in Alaska
    • The Mighty Kenai King Salmon, also known as Chinook Salmon, are the prize of the Kenai. During the first half of each summer these giant salmon, often exceeding 70 pounds, begin their return back into the same rivers and streams of the Kenai as they were born. Action is first-rate as these tackle busting bruins power their way into the hearts of anglers every year.
    • Kenai Sockeye Salmon, also known as Red Salmon, are the pride of the chefs for their rich red meat and delicate flavor. This is not to say that the action is not exciting, Sockeye are excellent fighters and when you consider that the daily run can be near 100,000 strong, you can imaging the type of action you can expect to encounter.
    • Silver Salmon, also known as Coho Salmon, are an intense fighter that love to jump and spin. Prepare for some very exciting action as these muscle bound fish enter the rivers in late fall.
    • Pink Salmon, also known as Humpy’s, are available during even years in absolutely ridiculous numbers. Pink salmon fishing produces virtually non stop action and is ideal for introducing young anglers to the sport of fishing. Pink salmon are available during even years from mid July through August.
  • Kenai River Trout Fishing
    • Rainbow Trout fishing on the Kenai river is becoming very popular amongst the trophy trout fly fishing enthusiasts lately. Approximately 43,000 rainbow trout are caught in the Kenai River every year, most of these are released unharmed to excite the next lucky angler. Float trips on the upper Kenai River above Skilak Lake are the most common for rainbow trout fishing.
    • Dolly Varden / Arctic Char — The Kenai river offers anglers both resident Dolly Varden trout and Arctic Char. The resident Dolly Varden are present year round in the river system spending their winters in Kenai and Skilak lake and moving into the river around May or June. Sea run Arctic Char enter the river in July through September. These fish also winter over in the lakes before returning to the sea the following year.
    • Lake Trout fishing is mainly centered around three lakes on the Kenai Peninsula. Kenai, Skilak and Hidden lakes have fair populations of Lake Trout although fishing for them is seldom seen outside of winter ice fishing. Early in the spring and late in the fall, anglers that do target them have some success in the shallows of the inlets and outlets of the lakes. About 3,300 lake trout are taken each year.
